Why Murray Greys

Shane selected the Murray Grey breed due to their docile temperament and easy calving. The breed is naturally polled and very adaptable to most climate conditions. Because of this, they make it easy to go above and beyond to keep them happy and healthy.

01

Happy & Healthy

Murray Greys are twice as likely to grade Choice or Prime Beef than the average steer, and they carry the genetics to produce marbled beef without excess subcutaneous or intermuscular seam fat. Because of this, supermarkets and butchers prefer Murray Grey beef for their consistent reliable quality and tenderness.

02

Quality Beef

Murray Grey cattle are of a moderate size, process sound structure, and have good walking ability. Bulls usually weigh 1,800-2,500 lbs, cows weigh 1,100-1,350 lbs, and calves clock in between 60-80 lbs. This breed also boasts great longevity, excellent maternal ability, and quality milk.

Weighing In

The Murray Grey breed originated in New South Wales, Australia on the Sutherland property. It didn't take long for demand to grow, and due to high cutability and less wastage than other breeds, butchers paid premium prices. In 1962, fifty breeders banded together to form the Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society of Australia, named after the Murray River, and the breed's grey coloring. By the early 70s they made their way to the US, and since then, thousands of farms across the country.
